New Week, (almost) New Me!: Food Diary 21 Jan 2013

I'm back from the dead (almost!).  Sunday I bailed on a gorgeous family day because I was feeling so lousy.  But only from the head up.  My body felt like it could run miles and that's the part that was so frustrating.  My head was holding me back and I was soooo tired.  After the thought of facing Monday with both kids home all day, I decided enough was enough.  I've been feeling gross for over a week so it was time to see if it was just a cold and to suck it up, or if there was more to the story.
So glad I went to the walk-in.

The doctor barely got in one ear and said Whoa, that's infected.  Didn't even bother to check the other one because I was getting antibiotics stat and a shot in my butt of steroid.  It was my first visit to this clinic and I LOVED it.  He was really inquisitive about my Sjogren's, to see how far I've progressed so he didn't do anything to further exacerbate my daily symptoms.  He even ordered a bunch of tests and X-rays to make sure there wasn't something else we should address.  My body can only fight off so much at once.  Pneumonia, flu and strep all came back negative so that was good.  My X-rays showed all of the left sinuses in my head completely full of infection and the right was catching up.  He was most concerned about my sphenoid sinuses being infected because of it's close proximity to the brain.  I guess the infection can sometimes seep over to the brain cavity and cause not-so-nice damage.  He wants a CT scan in a few weeks to make sure the drugs are working.

I don't see how they CANNOT work.  Besides the shot, I get to take 875mg of amoxicillian (sp) twice a day for a MONTH. Take that stupid infection.  Doctor wanted that carp gone.  He was careful not to prescribe me a decongestant because that would wreck havoc on my dryness I already have w Sjogren's.  Soooo grateful this guy knew what he was doing.  I'm following up w my ENT on Friday to make sure he concurs with what all we did.  If we could go just one month without a doctor visit, that's be awesome.

So today I felt much better- not close to 100% but I made it through the day!  Kids and I hit Waffle House because we had no eggs in the house.  I made good choices and was proud.  Took the kiddies to the gym for them to play while I did Pilates.  Figured a week off from exercise and still full of snot, I needed to ease back into the exercise thing.  I'm feeling it, so it was a good class.  Met Steve for lunch and ate in Cathedral Park.  Headed home for naps/quiet time, decorated for Mardi Gras, cleaned up the house, grabbed groceries, made dinner and tomorrow's breakfast and whew! The day is done.

Here's my food diary for today.  Forgot to measure myself this morning, but I did weigh in.  I'll do measurements and post tomorrow.  I lost weight.  I'm sure partly because my appetite was down, but even though I wasn't working out, I still was winning the battle in the kitchen.  I didn't keep a food diary most days I was sick, but the only baddies I had was a half & half tea from Chik Fil A, a Twist cupcake, and a massive brownie (not terribly good, wasn't really worth it).  All the rest was good-for-me food.  So helps having great, quick options in the house when you feel yuk!
