Food Diary for me!

Super boring post for you, but super important for me!  I definitely do a double-take when I'm keeping a food diary.  Do I reeeaallly want to write down that "xyz" I'm about to put in my mouth?  Why would I need to when I have so many quick swaps I can make in a pinch?  How bad do I want to keep trimming up?  I've been steadily pulling out clothes from my pre-baby "skinny" box, but there's still some cute stuff in there I'd love to hang back up in my closet.  Also going to treat myself to a super awesome swimsuit(s) this Spring if things go well- I deserve it!  Looking back at my old measurements, this time last year I was TWENTY POUNDS HEAVIER.  I know that might not seem like a lot to lose in a year, but it was an accomplishment for me.  2012 sucked almost as bad as 2011 did.  Rounds of battling Sjogren's, sick baby over and over again, nine day hospital stay for sick baby, lightening blowing out the house, waiting for contractors to fix said blow out.  It all sucked.  But I kept going.  And I know at the rate I lost the weight and the good habits I put in place, I'm not going back.  This isn't a yo-yo diet, Paleo is a way of life.  It's not hard.  It's not a diet.  It's eating well.  And working out has definitely helped me get stronger so my Sjogren's hurts less...

Next short term goal to keep on track for: Mardi Gras Ball Feb 3- I have a great red sparkly dress I'd love to get into!  Gotta try it on and see how far I'm away from wearing it.  I think 31 days is feasible.  I won't make it though if I'm stuck at 2-3 workouts a week.  Gotta step it up.  Gotta stay well enough to step it up!  My big plans in the last post were put on hold after some kind of crazy sinus-whatever that caused so much pressure my eye got all red.  And I was so sore from bootcamp for two days I decided I need to up some muscle recovery aminos and electrolytes so I can function.  And then New Years Day I got a wicked stomach bug (NO I did not overindulge on NYE.  I was a very good girl). So after a day of recouping from that, I hopped back on this fitness train and hope this is the real start!

Keeping this diary was a big eye opener.  I was eating Paleo foods so I knew that was good, but I'm not getting the right combinations to maximize the process.  I've gotta go back and read from Robb Wolfe what the proportions are exactly if I wanna get nitty-gritty with it.  The biggest thing I was lacking the last few days was enough veg.  I'm usually so good about that because my veg usually subs in for grains and starches (zucchini pasta, spaghetti squash, cauliflower-everything).  I always find if you're hitting a plateau in weight loss, it's time to reevaluate what you're doing.  Are you REALLY eating right or are you "cheating" more than you thought you were?  Are you REALLY drinking all your water and taking your vitamins on the regular or do you skip too often?  Is your exercise varied enough to cause muscle confusion (ie boost your metabolism) or have you gotten into a rut?  I think I need to reexamine my proportions to get the right protein, fat, veg, (good) carb combos and up the workouts back to where they were in November.  Sleep has been a big issue too because the lack of builds cortisol in your system and makes your body want to slow down and hold onto fat stores because it's under "stress" and needs reserve fuel to keep you going when you're not getting enough sleep.  And we all know how much I need my sleep w Sjogren's otherwise my body just feels like it's physically breaking down.  I would LOVE to get my full 8-10 hours uninterrupted sleep, but my sweet baby just is a crazy sleeper so I'm usually up at least once, usually twice a night tending to him.  Sometimes it's bad dreams, sometimes a wet diaper (he HATES wet diapers) but it's still interrupting REM and then it takes a while to get comfy and get back to resting.  Ri is bad about calling out in his sleep too.  We're trying everything (quiet bedtime routine, peaceful reading before sleep, mostly dark rooms, air purifiers, white noise) but they just have disturbed sleep patterns.  Ready for them to grow out of it so mommy can rest.  I need to start tracking that too- just hadn't, oops.

On to the food diary!  I guess I should really note my portion sizes too.... double oops

peppermint tea (tea is always decaf unless indicated, peppermint is so nice I don't add honey)
