The transition was quite easy after being out of the workforce for 5 years, everything magically fell into place! Found a nanny for the kids after school whom they love, got a cleaning service set up so I don't have to do weekly chores, and I got uber-organzied with menu-planning and meal prep. I was juggling it all and it was working.
Except I could never manage to carve out time for me for my workout. I have all of the stuff at home which is the pathetic part of it all. Nevermind I couldn't get to the gym anymore (tried to go during soccer practices, but I felt bad about putting my youngest into yet another nursery when he's been without me all day).
I tried to wake up early to work out but my youngest is an early riser and no way was he going to let me workout without him "helping". Besides, I hate early workouts and you have to do what you love or you'll never keep it up. I thought I could work out at night but after coming home by 6, fixing dinner, checking homework, starting baths and then bedtime routine, it was already 8:30 and I had just enough energy left to reset for the next day, but definitely not enough for a work out.
Oh, did I mention my children don't sleep?? 8:30 is a respectable enough bedtime, but when they both wake up at least once a night it makes for a restless night. We have tried everything: behavior mod, rewards, penalties, white noise, dark rooms, no electronics 30 mins before bed, standard peaceful bedtime routines, only sleeping in the bedroom (not playing), oils and melatonin. I can't function on 6 hours of sleep. I can barely go on 8. Luckily, we got the oldest sorted out to where he sleeps full nights now. The youngest is still an enigma with a code no one can crack.
Lunchtime workouts weren't possible because the closest Y was through the busiest part of town. Workouts weren't long enough to be worth the effort. Lucky for me Planet Fitness opened up within a block from where I work! A bunch of coworkers signed up at the New Year (I just signed up last week) so there may be some good people to network with about going. Even if not, I'm happy enough to go on my own and do my thing.
BUT the damage has already been done. 11 months of not working out 3 days a week like I was and overindulging in office treats and lunches has left me 10 lbs heavier, up a size (almost 2) in clothes, and all of my tone gone. So stupid.
I'm not Catholic, but there's something as cleansing as starting a good habit on Ash Wednesday as it is at the New Year, so here we go!
My starting stats: Nov 3 stats Best ever stats (or at least what I wrote down)
Waist- 30" 28.5" 28"
Hips- 38" 36" 35"Butt- 43.5" 41" 40"
Thigh- 25" 24" 23"
Weight- 154lbs 146lbs 143lbs (I do recall weight getting down to 139 for a brief flash, but I didn't measure that day)
I know what I need to do and now I feel set up enough to do it! Saying no at the office more and eating my Paleo like I should at home. Can't wait to see what the next 40 days will produce!
